Kannada is a confluence of history and culture, says Priyank Kharge
Home Minister Priyank Kharge spoke about the state's literary and cultural heritage during the 71st Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations.
Home Minister and Kalaburagi in-charge Priyank Kharge said on Sunday that Kannada is a confluence of emotions, history, ideas, and traditions. Speaking at the 71st Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations in Kalaburagi, Kharge noted that the language has a history of nearly 2,000 years and a diverse literary tradition, according to The Hindu.
Kharge, who unfurled the national flag at Nagareshwara High School in the Gunj area, said the literary spectrum of Kannada includes folk, Dasa Sahitya, Jain, and Bandaya movements. He observed that such a wide range of traditions is rarely found in other languages.
The Minister mentioned that more than 40 foreign ambassadors recently attended Dasara celebrations. He said these ambassadors expressed admiration for the art, food, and culture of Karnataka, and were struck by how ancient the Kannada language and its literature are.
Describing the state's diversity, Kharge said Malnad is known for greenery, Kalyana Karnataka for Sufi saints and tur dal, and Mandya for milk and silk. He added that the coastal region holds a distinct cultural identity.
Kharge stated that the present generation must protect the state's history and literature to pass them to the future. He said elected representatives and citizens both have a responsibility to preserve this heritage and familiarise younger people with it.
