Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High-Performance Centre develops players for international arenas

The centre has established 33 training hubs across 17 districts to support hockey players aged 8 to 16 years.

The Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High-Performance Centre (ONTHHPC) has created a structured pathway for the development of hockey in Odisha, according to The New Indian Express.

Operating under the Hockey Ace Foundation, a joint venture of Tata Steel and Tata Trusts, the centre has set up 33 locations across 17 districts. These facilities provide training to players between the ages of 8 and 16, officials said.

Since its establishment in 2019, the centre has seen 22 cadets, including 11 girls, chosen for junior national hockey camps. In the last two years, 15 boys and six girls from the facility have also earned spots with various franchises following the revival of the Hockey India League.

Many former players from the centre have gained employment with organisations including the Indian Army, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Indian Railways, Rail Wheel Factory, and Integral Coach Factory.

Bishnupriya Sethy, a hockey player from Dhenkanal, said the centre offers scientific training with professional coaches and support staff. She noted that she received specialised training as a goalkeeper and that the centre supports her education, stating she secured 70 per cent in her Class X examination this year.
