Rahul Gandhi urges rally attendees to shop from local traders

The Congress leader asked people attending the Sunday rally in Delhi to purchase goods for upcoming festivals to support local businesses.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday urged people attending the INDIA bloc’s ‘Chalo Dilli’ rally in Delhi to shop from local traders. According to The Hindu, Gandhi made the appeal in a video released late in the day.

Addressing the crowd expected for the November 1 rally, Gandhi said he wanted the lakhs of people arriving from outside Delhi to support local traders. He suggested that people could protest, march, and hold rallies while also doing some shopping for festivals such as Deepavali, Chhath, and Bhai Dooj.

The appeal comes as traders in central Delhi expressed concerns regarding the impact of the rally on business. A traders body in the area had previously requested the Congress leader to delay the event until Deepavali.

Traders have reported low footfall with Karva Chauth approaching and Diwali near. They noted that roadside stalls have either been taken down or are only permitted to operate after 4 p.m.
