Renuka Chowdhury dismisses claims of business loss during Delhi rally

The Congress leader called BJP allegations regarding local market disruption false rumours during the Chalo Delhi gathering.

Senior Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury on Sunday dismissed claims by the BJP that the Chalo Delhi demonstration would harm local businesses in Delhi during the festive season. Speaking to ANI, Chowdhury called these allegations false rumours and noted that Rahul Gandhi had encouraged attendees to shop in local markets.

The opposition INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1 was held to protest the removal of names from voter rolls, demand paper ballots, and call for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Chowdhury stated that the government had directed the opposition to Ramlila Maidan in writing after they requested permission for Jantar Mantar.

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of forcibly closing shops in Connaught Place. In a post on X, Gandhi claimed that while supporters were urged to shop, they found commercial establishments shut upon arrival.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also spoke on Sunday, alleging that 13.5 crore votes have been deleted and another 20 crore will be removed in the coming days. Reddy stated that the fight against vote theft would take place at the rally venue.

The demonstration follows a symbolic mock impeachment programme held against the Chief Election Commissioner on October 31. Large crowds gathered in the national capital, resulting in increased security and traffic restrictions in central Delhi.
