Shah Rukh Khan film King sets overseas rights record with ₹175 crore deal
Dubai-based Phars Films has acquired the international distribution rights for the film under a massive minimum guarantee.
Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film King has secured a record-breaking international distribution agreement, according to reports from Outlook and Hindustan Times. Dubai-headquartered Phars Films has reportedly acquired the overseas rights for a ₹175 crore Minimum Guarantee (MG).
The deal means Phars Films will take over international distribution from Yash Raj Films, which was originally intended to manage the global release. This figure marks a new high for Indian cinema, as no Indian film has previously reached the ₹100 crore mark for overseas rights.
To break even, the film must earn an estimated $37–40 million, or approximately ₹350–375 crore, in international gross collections. This is because international distributors typically retain 50 per cent of the box office gross.
For the film to be profitable, it may need to match the overseas performance of previous hits like Pathaan and Jawan, which both earned near ₹400 crore. It would also need to rival the collections of Dhurandhar 2 at ₹460 crore or RRR at ₹430 crore.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24. The film features a cast including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Raghav Juyal, Saurabh Shukla, and Suhana Khan.
