Delhi traders claim Rs 10,000-11,000 crore loss after INDIA bloc rally
Chamber of Trade & Industry Chairman Brijesh Goyal said 2.5 lakh shops remained closed due to disruptions at Ramlila Maidan.
Delhi's trading sector faced estimated losses of between Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 11,000 crore following the INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, according to Moneycontrol.
Chamber of Trade & Industry (CTI) Chairman Brijesh Goyal stated that approximately 2.5 lakh shops out of nearly 3 lakh in 20 to 25 major markets near the venue remained shut.
Goyal said the closures happened because traders felt panic regarding the expected influx of people and vehicles for the political gathering.
The disruption also impacted the movement of goods and people, with Goyal claiming that 5,000 vehicles could not operate and 3 lakh to 4 lakh business travellers did not arrive in the capital.
The CTI chairman noted that these losses were significant because the markets were in the peak Diwali season, with Dhanteras shopping set for four days later.
Goyal questioned whether the organisers would compensate the traders for the financial hit caused by the disruption.
