IndiGo will navigate industry challenges, says CEO Willie Walsh

The airline chief expects to receive wide-body A350 aircraft starting from the second quarter of 2028.

IndiGo CEO Willie Walsh said on Monday that the airline intends to manage industry difficulties while focusing on maintaining an excellent cost base. Speaking at his first in-person briefing since taking charge in August, Walsh noted that the airline sees many opportunities despite current hurdles.

According to The Tribune, Walsh stated that IndiGo possesses the necessary elements to succeed in the long-haul market. He expects the company to begin receiving wide-body A350 aircraft from the second quarter of 2028.

The airline reported a loss of Rs 1,879.1 crore during the September quarter. Walsh noted that rising fuel costs are impacting profitability across the industry, and the airline had also reduced its capacity during this period.

Regarding the Navi Mumbai airport, Walsh said the facility offers a significant opportunity. He mentioned that the choice to move some international flights was made to serve the airline's interests.

IndiGo currently manages a fleet of more than 400 aircraft and operates over 2,100 flights every day.
