Two killed and six injured in Bihar gas pipeline explosion

A gas pipeline leak triggered a blast during drain construction work in Muzaffarpur on Monday, damaging several buildings and houses.

A gas pipeline leak caused an explosion in Bihar's Muzaffarpur on Monday, resulting in the deaths of two people and leaving six others injured, according to India Today.

The incident occurred during drain construction work at Dumari near Gorbarsahi chowk under the Sadar police station limits. Eyewitnesses stated that a bulldozer struck an underground piped natural gas (PNG) pipeline while digging, which led to the leak and subsequent blast.

The explosion damaged a four-storey building and shattered windowpanes of several houses within a 100-metre radius. The blast also triggered a fire in a nearby house, which rescue teams eventually brought under control.

Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Kumar Gaurav said the explosion caused by the PNG pipeline leak claimed two lives and left six others injured. He added that an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause and fix responsibility.

The injured have been admitted to the nearest government hospital. Authorities evacuated the affected area as a precautionary measure while the gas company's technical team worked to stop the leak by shutting the main valve.
