Surat woman enters India Book of Records with weighted plank

Patel Pooja Smit Kumar held a plank position with 80 kg on her back for over two minutes.

A 23-year-old woman from Surat, Patel Pooja Smit Kumar, has entered the India Book of Records by holding a plank with 80 kg on her back. According to the Times of India, she maintained the position for 2 minutes, 6 seconds and 40 milliseconds.

The record was confirmed on September 9, 2026. The exercise required her to sustain a fixed position while the muscles contracted to maintain stability.

This achievement follows a previous record in the same category. In January 2026, Bijall Joshi, another woman from Surat, was recognised by the India Book of Records for holding a plank with 75 kg on her back for 45 seconds.

Pooja's feat involved an additional five kilograms of weight and a longer duration than the previous attempt. The exercise engages the abdominal muscles, back, shoulders, hips and legs to maintain body alignment.
