Nine killed as private jet crashes in South Florida neighbourhood

The Learjet 60 was travelling from Texas to the Bahamas when it crashed near Cresthaven on Sunday.

Nine people aboard a Learjet 60 were killed after the aircraft crashed into a residential area in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, according to reports from Times of India and ANI.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the deaths, stating the crash was a tragedy. The jet had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was en route to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.

The aircraft reportedly nose-dived into the neighbourhood near Cresthaven, creating a large fiery crater in the pavement. The crash occurred approximately nine miles from the Mar-a-Lago residence, according to Fox News.

Emergency crews shut down Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue described the incident as an extended emergency operation and asked the public to avoid the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is deploying a team to support the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) at the scene. The NTSB will lead the investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
