Nine dead as private jet crashes into Florida mobile home park
A Learjet 60 travelling from Texas to the Bahamas crashed into a mobile home park on Sunday, according to Times Now.
At least nine people died on Sunday when a $2 million private jet crashed into a mobile home park in South Florida, according to Times Now.
The Learjet 60 was travelling from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when the accident occurred. The aircraft reportedly struck a tree and downed power lines before hitting the ground near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North shortly after 13:00 local time.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the plane looked like a missile as it went down. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the fatalities and described the event as a horrific tragedy.
The impact caused a fire and damaged at least one trailer in the park. The aircraft was registered to LR60271 LLC, a private business in Wilmington, Delaware.
According to National Transportation Safety Board records, this is the second deadliest crash in the United States this year. It follows a skydiving plane crash in Butler, Missouri, in June that killed 12 people.
The National Weather Service in Miami reported seven miles of visibility at the time, with overcast skies, rain, and lightning in the West Palm Beach area. Winds were blowing from the east at 15mph, with gusts reaching nearly 25mph.
