Nine killed as business jet crashes in Florida residential area
A Learjet 60 travelling from Texas to the Bahamas crashed in Greenacres on Sunday afternoon, according to the Hindustan Times.
A Learjet 60 business jet crashed in a residential neighbourhood in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday afternoon. All nine people on board the aircraft died, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed.
According to the Hindustan Times, the aircraft, operated by LR60271 LLC and registered as N722BD, had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas. It was en route to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.
The jet went down near Military Trail, close to a mobile home community, at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time. Flight-tracking data from Flightradar24 and ADS-B Exchange indicated the plane was flying at about 35,000 feet before it began a rapid descent.
The impact caused a large crater in the road and scattered debris throughout the area. At least one mobile home was damaged, and the crash resulted in fires and downed power lines.
Videos circulating online show the jet diving steeply before hitting the ground and erupting into a fireball. Dashcam footage also captured the impact and the subsequent fire.
