Nine killed as private jet crashes in Florida mobile home park

A Learjet 60 travelling from Texas to the Bahamas crashed into a residential area in Palm Beach County on Sunday.

A private business jet crashed into a mobile home park in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, on Sunday, killing all nine people on board, according to reports by Times Now, India Today and Hindustan Times.

The Learjet 60, registered to LR60271 LLC, had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was en route to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the deaths and described the incident as a "horrific tragedy." He stated that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is sending a team to support the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation.

The aircraft crashed near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North at approximately 12:50 pm local time. Flight-tracking data showed the jet losing altitude rapidly after flying at around 35,000 feet.

The impact created a large crater, scattered debris, and damaged at least one mobile home. The crash also brought down power lines and sparked a fire.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the aircraft looked like a missile going down. The crash is the second deadliest in the United States this year, following a June plane crash in Missouri.
