IndiGo will navigate industry challenges, says CEO Willie Walsh

The airline expects to receive wide-body A350 aircraft starting from the second quarter of 2028 to target the long haul market.

IndiGo CEO Willie Walsh said on Monday that the airline intends to manage industry challenges while focusing on maintaining an excellent cost base. According to The Tribune, Walsh spoke at his first in-person briefing since taking charge as CEO in August.

Walsh stated that the airline sees significant opportunities and possesses the necessary elements to succeed in the long haul market. He noted that the company expects to begin receiving wide-body A350 aircraft during the second quarter of 2028.

The airline reported a loss of Rs 1,879.1 crore in the September quarter. This loss was attributed to rupee depreciation and rising fuel costs, which also led the airline to reduce its capacity.

Regarding the Navi Mumbai airport, Walsh said the facility offers a major opportunity. He mentioned that the choice to move some international flights was made to serve the interests of the airline.

IndiGo currently manages a fleet of more than 400 aircraft and operates over 2,100 daily flights.
