Gujarat increases daily meal allowance for mountaineering trainees to Rs 350
The state government's decision will benefit around 510 trainees and instructors at two major mountaineering centres starting in 2027.
The Gujarat government's Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department has decided to raise the daily meal allowance for instructors and trainees in annual mountaineering camps, according to ANI.
The maximum daily allowance per person will increase from Rs 150 to Rs 350, representing a hike of Rs 200. These revised rates are set to take effect from April 1, 2027.
The decision affects approximately 230 trainees at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Mountaineering Training Centre in Junagadh and about 280 trainees at the State Mountaineering Institute in Mount Abu. The state will incur an additional annual expenditure of Rs 3.40 lakh for the Junagadh centre and Rs 7.70 lakh for the Mount Abu centre.
In total, the state government will spend an extra Rs 11.10 lakh annually to support the nutrition of around 510 adventure enthusiasts. More than 20 training camps, involving both government and non-government organisations, are held throughout the year at these two locations.
The two centres operate under the Commissionerate of Youth Services and Cultural Activities. The increase aims to provide better food facilities to help maintain the physical fitness and stamina of those undergoing training.
