HYDRAA removes encroachments at Fox Sagar and Ramanthapur lakes

The agency demolished structures and compound walls encroaching on Full Tank Level limits to restore water bodies in Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) demolished several structures and compound walls on Monday that were allegedly encroaching upon the Full Tank Level (FTL) of Fox Sagar lake. According to reports by The Hindu and Deccan Chronicle, the agency is conducting these actions to restore the water bodies.

At Fox Sagar, HYDRAA removed a bund stretching almost half a kilometre within the FTL limits, along with a compound wall and iron fencing. In Dulapally village, the agency demolished a compound wall and a gate belonging to a farmhouse owned by family members of former Minister Ch. Malla Reddy.

The agency stated that nearly 15 acres of the family's land were enclosed within the FTL, following the filling of buffer zones and FTL portions with earth.

In Jeedimetla, the agency also cleared a compound wall covering almost 20 acres within the FTL limits in survey numbers 41 and 42. Additionally, HYDRAA removed a shed on a 400-sq. yd plot at Ramanthapur Cheruvu. The agency alleged the shed was built by a bar operator without permission, despite having permission for the bar and wine shop.

Bar operators claimed they had obtained a status quo order from the High Court three days ago. They stated that the landowner approached the court after HYDRAA officials arrived for a survey. Meanwhile, HYDRAA held a meeting with local temple managements near Kompally to discuss relocating 22 temples from the Fox Sagar bund to a single location to allow for development and bund strengthening.
