Odisha doubles death benefits for advocates under welfare fund

The Law Department has notified an amendment to the Odisha Advocates’ Welfare Fund Act, 1987, to increase financial aid for bereaved families.

The Odisha government has increased the amount of financial assistance provided as death benefits to advocates under the Odisha Advocates’ Welfare Fund Act, 1987, according to Pragativadi.

The Law Department issued a notification to amend the existing Schedule of the Act to provide more support to the families of deceased legal professionals.

This decision follows a recommendation from the Odisha Advocates’ Welfare Fund Trust Committee and considers the current availability of funds.

Under the new rules, the amount of assistance depends on the number of years an advocate has been in professional practice. A specific provision has also been created for those with fewer than five years of practice.

The notification was issued by the Law Department on behalf of the Governor. Officials stated the move reflects the state's commitment to supporting the bar and its dependents.

Eligible claimants can now access the increased assistance based on the revised rates linked to their years of practice.
