Hyderabad water supply to be interrupted for 36 hours in November
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board will carry out repairs on the Osman Sagar conduit starting November 3.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) announced that drinking water supply will be interrupted for 36 hours in parts of Hyderabad from 6 am on November 3. According to Telangana Today, the interruption is necessary to repair the century-old Osman Sagar conduit.
The repair work is scheduled to finish by 6 pm on November 4 and aims to fix leakages near Manikonda, Tolichowki and Sabza Colony. The stone conduit transports 20 million gallons per day from Osman Sagar, which is also called Gandipet.
The HMWSSB stated that the water shortage will be managed using other sources. While areas relying on the Gandipet conduit will face interruptions, supply from different sources will remain unaffected.
Affected locations include Red Hills, Nampally, Mallepally, Seetarambagh, Ghode-ki-Khabar, Hindi Nagar, the Assembly area, Secretariat, New MLA Quarters, Adarsh Nagar, Nampally South Central Railway area, Gunfoundry, Chintal Basti, Vijayanagar Colony, Old Mallepally, Asif Nagar, Ahmed Nagar, Domalguda, Kawadiguda, Gandhi Nagar and the Banjara Hills ward in Jubilee Hills.
The HMWSSB currently provides approximately 560 million gallons per day to Hyderabad via the Krishna and Godavari rivers, the Singur-Manjira project, Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar. The board has advised residents to save enough water beforehand and use it carefully.
