The Maharashtra school education department has identified 9,509 employees working in excess of sanctioned posts across 3,625 schools, according to a report by Urban Acres.
A preliminary review of the Shalarth payroll system also revealed 1,484 additional non-teaching staff across 1,206 schools.
Primary Education Director Sharad Gosavi and Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Director Dr Mahesh Palkar have ordered education deputy directors, officers, and pay-unit superintendents to provide details on these employees following an October 28 video conference.
The review found that 612 schools had staff working despite sanctioned staffing approvals, while 3,642 schools had no employee records in either the Shalarth system or staffing approval records.
Additionally, 842 schools had entries in the Shalarth system without available staffing approval records, and the service status of 10,695 employees detached from their Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) codes remains unresolved.
Authorities must enter provident fund opening balances as of April 1, 2021, into the system by November 15 to ensure November 2026 salaries are not affected during December disbursement.
