Bombay High Court extends stay on Imran Khan's Leave India notice
The court's order allows the actor to remain in India until the next hearing on December 7.
The Bombay High Court on Monday extended a stay on the 'Leave India' notice issued to actor Imran Khan until December 7, according to ANI. The interim protection allows the actor to continue staying in India until the next scheduled hearing.
Khan, an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, filed a writ petition challenging a notice dated October 14, 2026, issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), Mumbai. The FRRO had directed him to leave the country on or before October 28.
The actor's team stated that the FRRO concluded Khan, a US National, had taken part in a protest and ordered him to leave without giving him an opportunity to be heard. The petition argues the notice did not specify which provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, were allegedly violated.
Khan's team said the actor was not an organiser or participant in the protest but had gone to see what was happening. They stated he was surrounded by media and detained by the Mumbai Police on October 10 near August Kranti Maidan and Nana Chowk.
The petition notes that an FIR was registered at Gamdevi Police Station on October 10 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Khan contended the notice appeared to be issued in connection with the FIR despite allegations remaining unproven and no chargesheet being filed.
The actor, who has lived in India since the age of two, is seeking to quash the notice and requested protection against deportation or the cancellation of his OCI registration.
