Kerala PSC secretary questioned again over examination irregularities

Saju George appeared at the Crime Branch headquarters for a second round of questioning regarding alleged recruitment process issues.

Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) secretary Saju George appeared at the Crime Branch headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday for a second round of questioning. The probe concerns alleged irregularities in PSC examinations, according to The Hindu.

During the three-hour session, George reportedly told investigators that PSC chairperson M.R. Baiju did not consult him, other commission members, or senior officials on significant examination decisions. He claimed the chairperson often made independent decisions without seeking their input or suggestions.

The investigation is also looking into the selection of interview board members. Sources said the chairperson is suspected of appointing specific individuals to panels by bypassing the standard collective decision-making process.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has sought information regarding question paper preparation, examination procedures, and technical aspects of recruitment. The SIT is also examining claims that the commission has split into factions, which has reportedly hindered decision-making.

The PSC chairperson, who was questioned a few days ago, has denied any wrongdoing and blamed officials for the lapses. George told media persons that he would fully cooperate with the probe.

The Crime Branch is expected to question the PSC Controller of Examinations next. Notices have also been issued to 12 PSC members who are expected to appear for questioning in the coming days.
