Kharge and Rahul Gandhi meet Uttarakhand Congress leaders for 2027 polls

The meeting at Mallikarjun Kharge's residence focused on preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi met with Uttarakhand Congress leaders at Kharge's residence on November 2 to discuss the 2027 assembly elections, according to The News Mill.

The meeting included Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, Uttarakhand Congress in-charge Kumari Selja, state unit president Ganesh Godiyal, Yashpal Arya, and Harak Singh Rawat. Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat was not present at the discussion.

Kharge criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttarakhand, claiming its ten years in power failed to meet the expectations of the citizens. He cited a broken law-and-order system, concerns regarding women's safety, and an avoidance of accountability as reasons for public disillusionment.

Kharge stated that the people of Uttarakhand are seeking change and an accounting of actions. He said the Congress Party is working to protect the rights of the people through both public demonstrations and legislative efforts.

The Congress president added that the party aims to win public trust by providing a government in Uttarakhand that is secure, sensitive, and prioritises welfare.
