Rahul Gandhi challenges Narendra Modi to open debate over foreign help claims

The Leader of Opposition accused the Prime Minister of remaining in office due to foreign assistance and social media support.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an open debate regarding allegations that the Prime Minister has received foreign assistance to remain in office. According to The New Indian Express, Gandhi also alleged that foreign entities control India's financial system and that foreign social media platforms back the Prime Minister.

The Congress leader made these claims in a post on X, stating that the Prime Minister should stop lying to the nation. Gandhi challenged Modi to a debate on any stage at any time, adding that the Prime Minister would not dare to participate because he is terrified of what Gandhi knows.

The remarks follow a speech by Prime Minister Modi on Saturday during a visit to Gujarat. Addressing an event at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Narmada district, the Prime Minister said that certain forces within the country were attempting to create instability by spreading lies and rumours.

Modi alleged that the opposition has become an "Avrodh Paksh" (obstructionist bloc) instead of a "Virodh Paksh" (opposition bloc). He claimed these forces are standing as obstacles to the country's development and are engaged in shredding the boundaries of the Constitution.

The Prime Minister also questioned the foreign interactions of opposition leaders, asking who is secretly meeting whom abroad and which anti-India forces are providing support. He stated that the government would have to recognise these patterns.
