Manipur: DIPR tasked to draft digital policy and promote Meiteilon
Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Sunil Singh directed officials to introduce a registration system for online news organisations in Manipur.
The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has been instructed to create a digital media policy and a formal registration system for online news organisations in Manipur, according to NENow.
Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Sunil Singh issued the directive on Sunday during the 78th Information and Public Relations Day at the DIPR Auditorium in Nityaipat Chuthek.
Singh said the department needs to improve the speed of information dissemination so mainstream media can access government updates promptly. He also called for efforts to promote the Manipuri language, or Meiteilon, through regular news alongside English-language publicity.
Singh noted that Meiteilon connects the state’s 36 distinct communities and urged officials to find ways to expand its use in official communication.
Information and Public Relations Secretary Neeta Arambam spoke about the challenges of the digital landscape where authentic and fabricated content can spread quickly. She said the department must ensure information from official channels remains truthful and accurate.
Arambam also mentioned the department’s new website as a platform for sharing verified information. The event included DIPR officials, staff, pensioners, and media representatives.
