Telangana cybercrime losses fall 20 per cent in first nine months
Reported financial losses from cybercrime in Telangana dropped to Rs 881.72 crore between January and September, according to The Pioneer.
Reported financial losses from cybercrime in Telangana decreased by 20.2 per cent during the first nine months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to The Pioneer.
Telangana Cyber Security Bureau director Shikha Goel said on Sunday that losses reached Rs 881.72 crore, which is Rs 222.70 crore less than the Rs 1,104.42 crore recorded a year earlier.
While losses fell, the amount placed under lien in suspected fraud accounts increased by 42.2 per cent. This figure rose to Rs 260.30 crore from Rs 183.11 crore, an increase of Rs 77.19 crore.
Police stated that the rise in lien amounts indicates quicker reporting by victims and faster coordinated efforts between investigators and banks. The bureau attributed the downward trend in losses to ongoing public outreach.
Data from the bureau shows that 24,886 awareness programmes were conducted up to October, reaching 15,48,905 citizens. In October alone, 4,248 programmes were held with 2,78,428 participants.
Goel said the bureau will continue to use advanced technology to intensify cyber awareness throughout the year. She advised citizens to report fraud immediately via the 1930 helpline or the cybercrime.gov.in portal.
