National Conference faces internal strife in Jammu and Kashmir

Around 20 MLAs have prepared a memorandum seeking structural changes and the removal of certain office-bearers within the party.

The ruling National Conference is facing internal strife as approximately 20 MLAs have prepared a memorandum seeking changes to the party structure and the removal of some office-bearers, according to The Economic Times.

Senior National Conference MLA Abdul Majid Larmi said the party requires a cleansing process to free it from corrupt hands. Larmi stated that the move is not a rebellion and that changes will make the party stronger.

The crisis emerged after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reshuffled and expanded his council of ministers, which reportedly disappointed leaders including Mubarak Gul, Larmi, and Nazir Gurezi.

Larmi, Hasnain Masoodi, Farooq Shah, and Aijaz Jan will present the memorandum to party president Farooq Abdullah. Larmi alleged that Nasir Sogami, Surinder Choudhary, and Showkat Mir have ruined the party.

Srinagar Lok Sabha member Aga Ruhullah is set to resign from the party and the Lok Sabha on November 3 during a public rally. He is reportedly angry over the party's position on Article 370, 35 (A), and reservation.

The National Conference won 42 seats in the October 2024 assembly elections and formed the government with outside support from the Congress, which won six seats.
