Patient dies at McGann Hospital entrance while waiting for a stretcher
Relatives of the 60-year-old man accused hospital staff of negligence in Shivamogga after he died on Monday.
A 60-year-old stroke patient died on Monday while waiting at the entrance of McGann Hospital in Shivamogga, according to The Hindu.
The patient, Karibasappa of Muduvala, had been undergoing treatment for a stroke suffered a few days ago. His relatives took him to the teaching hospital in a private vehicle on Monday morning after he developed complications.
Upon arrival, security staff reportedly stopped the relatives and asked them to wait because a stretcher was not immediately available. A resident of Muduvala, Jagadish, said the patient waited for nearly half an hour and was dead by that time.
The relatives alleged that staff did not allow them to carry the patient inside themselves. Jagadish said that if the patient had received emergency care, he would have survived.
Medical Superintendent T.D. Thimmappa said a team of officials would inquire into the allegations. He stated that the hospital would find out if there were lapses by the staff and take appropriate action.
Thimmappa added that the hospital's concern is that patients should receive timely treatment.
