Delhi government orders transfer of prison officials posted for over 3 years

Home Minister Ashish Sood issued the directions to improve accountability and prevent corruption within the city's jail administration.

The Delhi government has ordered the identification and transfer of prison officials who have stayed at a single location for more than three years, according to The Tribune.

Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood issued these instructions following a review meeting. The government is seeking a full list of officials overstaying their posts in sensitive departments, such as the procurement wing, factory, and CPRO, as well as jails for civil prisoners, economic offenders, and first-time offenders.

Authorities must also provide 10-year posting records for specific officials facing allegations of misconduct and corruption. This measure is intended to examine posting histories and identify administrative irregularities.

The government has also instructed officials to increase oversight of financial transactions and welfare facilities. This includes verifying the market rates and quality of medicines and food provided to inmates.

Regarding security, prison authorities are to look into advanced scanning technology to detect narcotics and tobacco. The government has also set deadlines for submitting Action Taken Reports on complaints involving staff misconduct and security lapses.

Ashish Sood said the government maintains a zero tolerance policy towards systemic inefficiency, extortion, and corruption. He stated that rotating officers is a vital step to ensure transparency and prevent vested interests.
