Maharashtra cop sparks row after celebrating birthday on fatal flyover
A video of officer Sonal Patil celebrating her birthday on the Kolhapur Naka-Nandlapur flyover has drawn criticism following a recent accident.
A woman police officer in Karad, Maharashtra, has faced criticism after a video of her birthday celebration on a flyover went viral on social media, according to India Today.
The video shows officer Sonal Patil celebrating her birthday on the Kolhapur Naka-Nandlapur flyover on October 31. The celebration included cake-cutting, flowers, and a pyro gun, while Patil posed with her new car.
The 3.5-km flyover, which was completed a few months ago, was the site of a fatal accident approximately 10 to 15 days ago. In that incident, a car travelling from Kolhapur towards Satara crashed, killing four young men and injuring two others.
The viral clip has raised questions regarding the use of a public road for a private event and whether the officer disregarded traffic rules. Concerns about speeding and road safety have been noted on this stretch since traffic resumed.
The incident has led to questions over the conduct of the officer and whether action will be taken for allegedly flouting traffic regulations.
