Three BSF personnel and a youth injured in Tripura clash
A confrontation between Border Security Force personnel and local residents in Sepahijala district has led to injuries and police investigations.
Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a local youth were injured during a clash with residents in the Ashabari locality of Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday, according to The Hindu and The Assam Tribune.
The incident occurred during a road blockade near Natun Bazar, where locals were protesting the alleged detention and assault of a youth, Hefzur Rahman, during a vegetation-clearing operation.
The BSF personnel, identified as Company Commander Rohit, driver Sunil Kumar, and Manjit, were travelling in a vehicle from the 49th Battalion when they encountered protesters. The crowd allegedly attacked the personnel with sticks and bamboo, according to The Assam Tribune.
The injured BSF personnel and the youth, who sustained a leg fracture, were shifted to Tripura Medical College and BRAM Hospital in Agartala for treatment.
Police from the Kalamchoura police station and personnel from the Ashabari BSF Border Outpost arrived at the scene to control the situation. Two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed at the local police station by both sides.
A security contingent comprising armed police and Tripura State Rifles personnel has been deployed to the area. Senior BSF officials have visited the site to review the situation as investigations continue.
