Punjab transfers Rs 1,291 crore to 37 lakh women
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the transfer of funds under the Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojana in Abohar.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann transferred Rs 1,291 crore to the bank accounts of 37.43 lakh women on Sunday. The funds were distributed under the Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojana during an event in Abohar, Fazilka district, according to the Hindustan Times.
Mann stated that as of October 29, over 80 lakh women had registered for the scheme. He said the government aims to cover 1 crore women. He noted that every eligible woman in a family can receive the benefit independently, as there are no restrictions based on the household.
The cumulative assistance under the scheme has reached Rs 3,934.80 crore since the first release on July 1. The next instalment is scheduled for December 1, with another payment expected on January 1.
During the visit, Fazilka police detained Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar, his supporters, and four members of the family of Ajay Kumar. Jakhar, who was seeking to discuss grievances regarding a murder case, accused the government of a “dictatorial attitude” after being stopped near the Civil Hospital.
The Tribune reported that several farmers were also taken into custody while attempting to protest. Gunwant Singh Sandhu, general secretary of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Khosa), Punjab, alleged that deductions were being made during paddy procurement due to moisture and quality issues.
