Ashwin defends Sanju Samson after T20I series struggles against New Zealand
Ravichandran Ashwin responded to a social media user questioning his support for the wicketkeeper-batter following Samson's low scores in the series.
Ravichandran Ashwin defended Sanju Samson on social media after the batter struggled during the T20I series against New Zealand, according to The Times of India.
Samson was dismissed for four runs in the fifth T20I on Sunday, which was the series decider. His scores across the five matches were 67, 14, 18, 4, and 4.
After a half-century in the opening match, the right-hander managed 40 runs in his final four outings. This led a social media user to question Ashwin's support for the player.
Ashwin responded to the user by saying, "Sanju mera first-choice, tumhara full-time obsession."
The batter's performance has led to discussions regarding Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 4 and 45 in two matches during the series. The teenager is being considered for more opportunities at the top of the order.
India won the first three matches to take a 3-0 lead, but New Zealand won the fourth and fifth T20Is. The series ended with India winning 3-2.
