Woman carries sick daughter seven kilometres through hilly terrain for treatment
A tribal woman in Vizianagaram had to walk a long distance after Cyclone Arnab cut off her village from the mainland.
A 36-year-old woman from Pallapu Dungada village carried her 11-year-old daughter on her shoulder for seven kilometres to reach a government hospital in S. Kota on Sunday. According to The Hindu, the woman, Sunkaramma, had to traverse hilly tribal terrain because her village was cut off from the mainland following Cyclone Arnab.
The girl, Sampoorna, required medical attention, but the hamlet lacked transport facilities and first aid. Sunkaramma walked the distance while carrying a bag in one hand, despite experiencing heavy pain.
Authorities at the S. Kota government hospital treated the girl and provided support to the woman. Officials told District Collector S.
Ramsundar Reddy that heavy rainwater inflow from the cyclone had damaged the road.
Collector Reddy has asked S. Kota officials to investigate the incident and ensure the village has proper motorable road connectivity. S.
Kota MLA Kolla Lalitha Kumari stated she will ask the government for more funds to improve roads connecting S. Kota and Kothavalasa to various tribal villages in her constituency.
