Delhi air quality deteriorates as pollution levels breach 300 mark

Monitoring stations in Wazirpur and Jahangirpuri recorded severe pollution levels as the citywide Air Quality Index rose during Diwali week.

Air quality in Delhi deteriorated sharply at the start of Diwali week, with the citywide average Air Quality Index breaching the 300 mark, according to India Today.

Several monitoring stations recorded severe pollution levels, including Wazirpur at 424 and Jahangirpuri at 417.

Authorities are considering invoking GRAP Stage 2 measures. The implementation of the winter action plan has faced compliance challenges in commercial hubs such as Lajpat Nagar and Connaught Place.

Current restrictions include bans on non-emergency construction, fuel supply restrictions for vehicles without valid PUC certificates, and restrictions on non-compliant BS6 vehicles entering from neighbouring NCR areas.

In Gurugram, officials announced anti-pollution curbs, which include a 50 per cent work-from-home mandate for offices and construction bans.
