Karnataka hamlet lacks electricity and basic infrastructure after 80 years of independence

Around 175 residents of Gawali Wada in Khanapur taluk struggle without mobile connectivity, roads, or power supply.

Around 175 people living in the Gawali Wada hamlet in Karnataka's Khanapur taluk continue to live without electricity, mobile network, television connectivity, or proper roads, according to The New Indian Express.

The remote settlement, which falls under the Golyali Gram Panchayat, consists of 20 families living near dense forests.

Resident Sanjay Patil said the lack of electricity makes life extremely difficult for women, children, and elderly people. He added that the darkness makes it difficult for residents to move around safely due to fears of wild animals.

Bhagu Dhaklu Dhangar, another resident, told the outlet that villagers have approached all authorities with requests, but nobody has responded to their appeals so far.

The villagers stated that promises made by elected representatives during elections have not resulted in any improvements to their living conditions.

A delegation including Vitthal Dhangar, Biru Dhangar, Navalu Avne, and Iju Avne recently submitted memorandums to the Khanapur tahsildar and the assistant executive engineer of HESCOM’s Khanapur subdivision. The residents warned they will launch a protest if authorities do not meet their demands for electricity and essential infrastructure.
