Two students injured after falling 30 feet from Kakkazham flyover

The teenagers were thrown over the bridge railing during a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a car on Tuesday morning.

Two 18-year-old students sustained severe injuries after being thrown over the railing of the Kakkazham railway overbridge near Ambalapuzha on Tuesday. According to Onmanorama, the accident occurred at approximately 6.15 am when a motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming car.

The motorcycle was being ridden by R Rahul, 35, who was transporting Devanshi, 18, and her friend Diya, 18, to the Ambalapuzha railway station. The impact of the crash sent the two girls over the side of the bridge, where they fell into a gap between concrete blocks used for National Highway expansion work.

The two teenagers lost consciousness and suffered head, spinal, and limb fractures. Rahul also sustained multiple fractures to his arms and legs and required emergency surgery. The occupants of the car, which was heading to a private hospital in Kochi, were not injured.

Local residents rescued the unconscious girls from the concrete blocks and took them to the Medical College Hospital. Rahul and Devanshi were later moved to a private hospital in Alappuzha, while Diya was transferred to a specialist facility in Parumala.

The collision destroyed the motorcycle and caused traffic delays on the National Highway for about 30 minutes. Normal traffic flow resumed after police and local residents cleared the damaged car from the overbridge.
