Three BSF jawans attacked by alleged smugglers in Tripura
The attackers vandalised a government vehicle and tried to seize service weapons while attempting to free a detained individual.
Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were attacked by a group of alleged smugglers in the Ashabari area of Boxanagar, Tripura, on Monday morning, according to Mathrubhumi.
The incident took place around 9:00 a.m. near Gate Nos. 174 and 175 along the international border fence. The confrontation occurred after personnel from the 49th Battalion detained an alleged smuggler, identified as Hefzur Rahman, approximately 400 metres from the site.
While three jawans from the Rahimpur Kantamura Border Outpost (BOP) were travelling in a government vehicle toward Boxanagar, a group of alleged smugglers launched a violent attack. The attackers reportedly beat the personnel, causing severe head injuries, and attempted to snatch their service firearms.
The attackers also caused extensive damage to the government vehicle. Sources claimed that several Bangladeshi nationals residing in the Ashabari area may have been involved, though these claims have not been officially verified.
Reinforcement units from the Ashabari BOP arrived at the scene, causing the assailants to flee. Police and BSF officials have retrieved CCTV footage from a nearby residence to assist with the inquiry.
Boxanagar Police have started an investigation to locate all individuals involved in the violence.
