Astrobase to invest ₹500 crore in Karnataka rocket manufacturing facility

The space technology company plans to build a plant in Adinarayana Hosahalli to produce 40 rocket engines annually.

Bengaluru-based space technology firm Astrobase will invest ₹500 crore to set up a rocket manufacturing facility in Karnataka, according to reports by Urban Acres and BusinessLine. Industries Minister M.B. Patil stated on November 3 that the project will be located on 10 acres in the Adinarayana Hosahalli industrial area.

The facility is expected to create more than 1,250 jobs and will manufacture launch vehicles and modern rockets. Once operational, the plant aims to produce 40 rocket engines every year. The company, which is led by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists, has already developed an indigenous engine named Everest.

Minister Patil noted that the investment is significant due to the global demand for launch vehicles. Astrobase intends to increase its annual payload delivery capacity to 100 tonnes by 2032 and 1,000 tonnes by 2040.

In a separate announcement, the Netherlands-based company Bayer plans to invest ₹200 crore to establish a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru. This project is expected to generate 220 jobs. Patil said he met Bayer leadership in the Netherlands to attract such investments.

Bayer, which has operated in India for 125 years, aims to hold its groundbreaking ceremony before the Global Investors Meet in April 2027. The minister did not provide a construction schedule or a specific completion timeline for the Astrobase facility.
