Nadia leads West Bengal districts in tuberculosis eradication campaign

A total of 98 village panchayats in the Nadia district are currently tuberculosis-free under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

Nadia has emerged as the top district in West Bengal for the tuberculosis eradication campaign under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, according to The Hawk.

Statistics from the Nadia district administration show that 98 out of 185 village panchayats in the district are now tuberculosis-free.

This includes 15 panchayats that have reported no cases in the last three years, earning the Gold Standard, 33 panchayats with no cases in two years for the Silver Standard, and 50 panchayats with no cases in the last year for the Bronze Standard.

Nadia district magistrate Dr Srikanth Palli said the success resulted from continuous initiatives in detection, regular treatment, surveillance, and awareness raising.

Palli noted that the number of tuberculosis patients in the district was approximately 30 times higher 20 years ago than it is currently.

He added that emphasis was placed on ensuring patients complete their full medication period to prevent drug-resistant tuberculosis. Currently, around 350 volunteers are working as 'Nikshay Mitra' in the district to assist with treatment and nutrition.
