Gujarat police alert prisons after bomb threat email
Security has been tightened at Sabarmati Central Jail and other facilities following an anonymous email received by the Director General of Police.
Gujarat police have placed prisons across the state on high alert after an unidentified person sent an email allegedly threatening bomb attacks on Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad and prisons in Vadodara, Rajkot, and Surat. According to Urban Acres, the email was sent to the Director General of Police (DGP) office in Gandhinagar on November 3.
In Ahmedabad, the Crime Branch, local police, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted searches at Sabarmati Central Jail. Teams used metal detectors, sniffer dogs, and other equipment to check sensitive barracks, high-security zones, and the anda cell. No explosives were found during the operation.
Security measures at the Ahmedabad facility now include increased checks for vehicles, supplies, and visitors. Access for anyone other than jail staff has been temporarily restricted, and monitoring has been intensified via CCTV and perimeter-wall watchtowers.
A case has been registered at a cybercrime police station to trace the sender. The technical team is examining email headers and server logs with help from digital experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory to determine if a proxy server, virtual private network, or encrypted service was used.
The Sabarmati facility houses prisoners linked to terrorist activities, gang-related offences, and serial blast cases. Police and jail authorities say they are continuing heightened security measures across the identified locations.
