Bhuvneshwar Kumar's India career may be over, says Ravichandran Ashwin
The former spinner suggested the pacer might struggle to return to the national side after a poor T20I series against New Zealand.
Ravichandran Ashwin believes Bhuvneshwar Kumar may find it difficult to return to the Indian team following a disappointing comeback in the T20I series against New Zealand, according to the Times of India.
The 36-year-old pacer returned to the T20I side after a four-year gap but took only one wicket in four matches while conceding 180 runs.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said there was a significant difference between the bowler's performance in the series and his form during IPL 2026.
Ashwin noted that the pacer's intensity, run-up speed, and bowling speed were lower than expected, suggesting he may not have been in prime training form.
The former spinner added that while young players receive many chances, selectors may find it difficult to offer an experienced player more opportunities after such a performance.
Ashwin also stated that Mohammed Shami, who has not played for India in over a year and a half, is in better rhythm due to his performances for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy.
India is scheduled to play a three-match home T20I series against Sri Lanka in December.
