CM Conrad Sangma inaugurates renovated State Central Library and heritage festival
The Chief Minister opened the House of Ryndia and a living heritage festival in Shillong to promote local culture and textiles.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the renovated State Central Library, the House of Ryndia at the state museum, and a living heritage festival in Shillong on November 3, according to the Meghalaya Monitor.
The Chief Minister stated that the event connects the preservation of living heritage, public access to knowledge, and increased market opportunities for traditional textile producers.
The State Central Library, established on January 19, 1974, received Rs 2.23 crore in assistance under the National Mission on Libraries to upgrade infrastructure and technology.
The updated facility features new spaces for children to read, archive sections, enhanced reading areas, and a Knowledge Corner for students studying for national competitive exams.
The House of Ryndia was also opened to provide a platform for indigenous textiles to improve visibility and market linkages, while the State-Level Living Heritage Arts & Craft Village Festival recognises traditional arts, music, and food practices.
Sangma said the renovated library aims to modernise the space and encourage reading habits among youth by providing amenities such as local tea and snacks.
