Reverse current flow suspected in Conrad Hotel electrocution case

Police are investigating whether a sudden voltage surge caused the deaths of two foreign nationals in a Bengaluru hotel swimming pool.

A preliminary assessment suggests that two foreign nationals may have died due to a reverse flow of electricity through a swimming pool railing at the Conrad Hotel on October 30, according to The Hindu.

Investigators are looking into whether a sudden voltage surge occurred in the electrical system of the pool. While the voltage for pool lighting is typically low and usually not fatal, police are probing what could have triggered a surge allowing current to pass through the water and metal railing.

The authorities have not yet determined how the electricity entered the railing or the specific cause of the reverse flow. Police have questioned various hotel staff, including technical personnel and senior management, regarding the maintenance of electrical installations and safety protocols.

The autopsy for German national Alexander Maximilian Theiss has been completed, and his body is cleared for handover to his family. The body of Slovakian national Juraj Horvat is still awaiting clearance from the Slovakian consulate.

Two other individuals, a U.S. citizen and a pool attendant who tried to rescue the victims, have been discharged from the hospital. Their statements have been recorded by the police as investigators await technical and forensic reports.
