DDCA asks BCCI to move India-Sri Lanka ODI from Delhi
The association cited ground renovations and weather issues as reasons for the request to relocate the December 13 match.
The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has formally asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to relocate the India versus Sri Lanka one-day international (ODI) match from the national capital, according to reports from The Tribune and News18.
The opening match of the three-match ODI series is currently scheduled for December 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The second match is set for Bengaluru, while the third will take place in Ahmedabad.
A DDCA source told ANI that the association cannot host the fixture on December 13 because the ground is undergoing renovation. The source also noted that weather issues in the capital during December would make organising the match difficult.
News18 reported that Cricbuzz cited pollution levels in Delhi as another reason for the request. A source told Cricbuzz that the association wants the match moved because of the AQI in Delhi, more so than the renovation work.
Sri Lanka is scheduled to tour India next month for the ODI series and a three-match T20I series. The T20I matches are planned for Rajkot, Cuttack, and Pune.
The Shubman Gill-led Indian team is currently in New Zealand. They will next play a five-match ODI series starting Wednesday at Eden Park in Auckland, followed by a two-match Test series.
