ED summons former Andhra Pradesh minister Ambati Rambabu in liquor scam case

The YSRCP leader has been asked to appear before the Hyderabad zonal office on November 4 to record his statement.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu on November 4 for questioning. According to ANI, Rambabu must appear before the agency's Hyderabad zonal office regarding an alleged Andhra Pradesh liquor scam.

The investigation concerns suspected irregularities in awarding and executing liquor transportation contracts during the tenure of the YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh. The case is being investigated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The agency's action follows the June 18 arrest of Karumuri Sunil Kumar, son of former minister Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao. Earlier, on June 11, the ED conducted searches at five premises in Hyderabad, seizing a luxury car, watches valued at Rs 94.5 lakh, and unaccounted cash.

The ED previously arrested Kessireddy Raja Shekhar Reddy, a former IT advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government, and Dontireddy Vasudeva Reddy, former Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL).

The investigation was initiated following an FIR by the Andhra Pradesh CID based on a complaint regarding a loss of Rs 195.33 crore to the Government exchequer. The ED alleges that tender conditions were modified to favour specific entities to generate unlawful gains through liquor transportation.
