Eight arrested for attacking BSF personnel in Tripura
A mob allegedly used sticks and bamboo to attack security forces near the India-Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district.
Police have arrested eight people for allegedly attacking Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Ashabari in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Monday, according to The Hawk.
The attack occurred near the international border under the Kalamchaura Police Station. Three BSF personnel, including a Company Commander, were injured in the incident, while one attacker was also injured.
Officials stated that BSF personnel had noticed Indian and Bangladeshi smugglers allegedly engaged in illegal trade. While Bangladeshi smugglers fled across the border, an Indian smuggler escaped and allegedly told villagers he had been assaulted by the BSF.
A group of men and women then surrounded a BSF vehicle, attacking the personnel with sticks and bamboo. The mob allegedly attempted to snatch a rifle from a jawan and damaged a BSF vehicle.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, condemned the assault on his official X account. He stated that violence against security personnel will not be tolerated and that all those involved will be brought to justice.
While eight people have been arrested, an intensive search operation is underway to apprehend the remaining accused, police officials said on Tuesday.
