Police officer killed by truck during liquor interception in Madhya Pradesh

Khategaon Police Station in-charge Dilip Puri died on Sunday night during a police operation in Dewas district.

A police station in-charge was killed on Sunday night when a truck, allegedly carrying illegal liquor, ran over him in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district, according to The Assam Tribune.

Khategaon Police Station in-charge Dilip Puri, a 2007-batch Sub-Inspector, died on the spot on the Harda-Nemawar highway after the rear wheel of the vehicle struck him.

The incident occurred while Puri and a police team were attempting to intercept a truck reported to be transporting illicit liquor from Harda to Gujarat via Indore.

Reports state that a scuffle broke out after Puri asked the driver to exit the vehicle, which was stopped for water. The driver allegedly tried to flee with the truck, causing Puri to fall and be crushed by the rear wheel.

Dewas Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Mishra had deployed more than five teams, including station in-charges from Kannod and Satwas, to intercept the vehicle.

Police have seized the truck, registration number MP 43 H 4786, and arrested the driver. Officials have identified Rahul Jaiswal of Harda in connection with the suspected smuggling network, and an investigation is ongoing.
