CRPF records first year without fatalities in 47 years
Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid attributed the milestone to improved tactical training, advanced technology, and modernised protective equipment.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has completed a full calendar year without any personnel fatalities, a first for the force in 47 years, according to The News Mill. Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police SP Vaid hailed the achievement on November 3.
Vaid said that better weapons, improved technology, and enhanced equipment contributed to the milestone. He noted that personnel now use bulletproof jackets, helmets, and vehicles to increase protection during operations in volatile areas like Jammu and Kashmir and Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) zones.
Former CRPF Additional Director-General HR Singh said the lack of casualties was a significant success driven by professionalism and operational skills. Singh credited the Ministry of Home Affairs for its support and mentioned the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, night-vision surveillance, and improved connectivity in Chhattisgarh as factors in gaining community trust.
Former CRPF Director General Pranay Sahay called the development a matter of great pride for the country. He noted the progress made compared to previous years when casualties were frequent, including an incident in April 2010 in Chhattisgarh where 77 personnel were lost.
Former CRPF Inspector General Arun Kumar described the milestone as an extraordinary achievement for the force of approximately 325,000 personnel. He attributed the result to the vigilance of commanders and the support of CRPF Director General GP Singh and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
