CRPF records first year without operational fatalities in 47 years

The paramilitary force achieved this milestone despite intense deployments in Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, and Left-wing extremism areas.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has completed 12 consecutive months without a single operational fatality, a milestone the force has not seen in 47 years, according to reports by The Times of India and ThePrint.

CRPF Director General (DG) G P Singh stated that the last operational fatality occurred on October 30, 2025. He noted that this achievement is significant as the force remains intensely engaged in major operational theatres.

The force is currently deployed in high-risk areas including Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, and regions affected by Left-wing extremism. A CRPF official attributed the zero fatality rate to course-correction, including better strategic planning, protective gear, and deploying 1.5 times the required force.

The DG credited the milestone to improved training, modern hardware, and the high-speed evacuation of injured personnel via air ambulances. A post-analysis indicated that three-fourths to four-fifths of fatalities previously occurred days after an injury, which timely medical care could prevent.

The CRPF, which has approximately 3.25 lakh personnel, was raised in 1939 and renamed in 1949. Official data shows that between 1947 and the current period, 2,268 to 2,270 personnel have been killed in operations.

This marks the sixth time the force has recorded nil fatal casualties. The previous such period lasted 24 months between February 1977 and January 1979.
