Three BSF jawans injured in alleged smugglers' attack in Tripura
The assault occurred near the Ashabari Border Outpost when a group of alleged smugglers attacked a vehicle carrying security personnel.
Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained injuries during an alleged attack by smugglers in the Ashabari area of Boxanagar, Tripura, on November 3, according to The News Mill.
The incident took place around 9 AM near Gate Nos. 174 and 175 along the barbed-wire border fence. The jawans, who were travelling by vehicle from the Rahimpur Kantamura Border Outpost (BOP) towards Boxanagar, were reportedly attacked at a blockade site.
Eyewitnesses and video footage indicate that the attackers threw the jawans to the ground, causing serious head injuries, and targeted their service weapons. The government vehicle used by the personnel was also severely vandalised.
While one individual, identified as Hefzur Rahman, was detained approximately 400 metres from the site, sources suggest several Bangladeshi nationals residing in the Ashabari area may have been involved. This has not been officially confirmed.
Additional BSF personnel from the Ashabari BOP arrived at the scene, causing the assailants to flee. Police and BSF have obtained CCTV footage from a nearby residence to assist with the investigation.
Senior police and BSF officials have visited Boxanagar to review the situation. The Boxanagar Police are currently leading the investigation and pursuing those responsible for the attack.
